TMJ TREATMENT
The Temporomandibular joint is the most commonly used joint in the body during daily functions. The TMJ is active any time you swallow, chew, or speak. A disorder of this region may include the joint as well as surrounding muscles and other soft tissue. Often times pain in this region originates from whiplash injury, a direct blow, clenching or bruxing, and degenerative osteoarthritis of the joint. Often patients will report difficulty opening their jaw, joint noises, headaches, dizziness, neck pain, earaches, ringing in the ears, and difficulty swallowing.
Physical therapy is a proven treatment choice to assist in stabilization, activity modification, manual techniques to the joint, and referral to an appropriate provider for possible appliances.
